Preliminary Video Task Evaluation

For the preliminary task we were asked to make a short video showing someone walking through a door and then exchanging a few lines of dialogue with a person in the room.

We started off by thinking about our situation and thinking ahead to our film opening piece. Having decided on a horror theme for the sequence we got started by first drawing out a storyboard — we did this so that we did not have the organisational problems from the previous task. After we were happy with our storyboard (shown below) we decided to take some photos of the shots we had drawn out to see if they would work.

These show shots 1-23
When the photographs were taken we had the idea to put them into final cut so that we could do the majority of the editing and play around with sound effect, transitions, video effects etc. Effectively it was a good idea to further improve our skills on Final Cut whilst saving ourselves time after we had captured the footage as we could just replace the photos for the cropped video footage needed. This video is shown below.

Now it was time for us to move onto the shooting side of the process. We took on all our mistakes made in our previous group work and during shooting we managed to get a minimum of 5 second clip handles so that the footage was easier to work with. We also took several shots of the same clip with different angles so the we could decide which one we liked more when we put them on the Macs.

Once we had all the footage all that was left to do was to transfer the footage to the Mac and replace the photos with it. The editing process took half the time of other groups which proves our pre-editing payed off. Once the video was done all that was left to do was export it.
All in all I think by learning from our errors in the previous task we have learned how to effectively manage our time and organise ourselves to be able to produce a very acceptable result.

Enjoy the Video.
**Please note that although we decided on a horror genre we made a conscious decision to add a comedic element as the ending because we felt the conditions and environment were not right to fully create the tension throughout.
